Our Program

Thematic Programming

Each season is carefully designed around themes that matter to youth. Repertoire addresses social concerns and encourages singers to reflect on their role in a complex world.

Musicianship

Music analysis and musicianship skills are integrated into every rehearsal. Singers learn from direct application of skills to the music rather than as abstract concepts.

Vocal technique

We emphasize age appropriate vocal technique that will serve singers for a lifetime. Teaching strategies emphasize breath, body awareness, and healthy singing.

Representation

We program music that reflects the cultural backgrounds of our singers while also introducing new traditions and perspectives, with an emphasis on music and composers from historically underrepresented communities.

Belonging

Rehearsals are designed to be safe, supportive, non-judgemental spaces where singers feel free to share their ideas and experiences. Using repertoire text as the starting point, we integrate dialogue on social issues into rehearsals, helping choristers connect music-making to their own lives.

Collaborative Philosophy

Singers and parents are directly engaged in the governance of the ensemble. Group discussion and decision making take time, but strengthen us as a community. Through modeling collaborative and consensus building approaches, our singers learn skills that they may find helpful in the future.

We proactively seek collaborative projects with community organizations, demonstrating the value of using music to address shared community concerns.
