FAQs
Where do you rehearse?
Star of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 514 Third Ave., Bethlehem, PA
Holy Trinity Memorial Lutheran Church, 604 Fourth St., Catasauqua, PA
How long are rehearsals and when do they take place?
We rehearse every Thursday evening from 6:45pm – 8:45pm EST, as well as one Saturday a month from 9:30am – 3:00pm EST.
Rehearsals generally start the first week of September and go until the first week of December. We take the month of December off and restart the first week of January and go until the first week of May.
There is also a weeklong Summer camp in August, typically the middle week of the month.
Where do you perform and how often?
We perform our annual Winter and Spring concerts at Holy Trinity Memorial Lutheran Church, 604 Fourth St., Catasauqua, PA.
We perform run-out concerts around the Lehigh Valley at various locations and for different events. The schedule is different every year depending on the opportunities and collaborations that come to us. There are generally one to three additional commitments each semester, sometimes running into June.
What age singers can join?
MYC singers are generally in grades 6-12, but fifth graders may audition if they have a strong musical background. Additionally, singers may continue after graduation.
Troubadour is for singers in grades 4-6.
Singers may have changed or unchanged voices, any gender.
Where do your singers come from?
Our singers come from across the Greater Lehigh Valley including Bethlehem, Allentown, Center Valley, Saylorsburg, Breinigsville, Catasauqua, Quakertown, Stroudsburg, and Macungie.
Do I have to audition?
Singers interview with our Artistic Director, discussing the singer’s interest in Mosaic Youth Chorus, assessing their musicianship, and hearing them sing.
You’ll sing a simple, well-known song, vocalize to assess range, and do some simple musicianship exercises. Mostly, we want to get to know you!
Do I have to know how to read music or have prior singing experience to interview?
No prior experience reading music or being in a choir is required, but any musical experience is very helpful!
We seek singers of all abilities, and teach them what they need to know to perform artistically. This includes instruction in vocal technique and musicianship in the context of rehearsal.
How do I sign up?
Send us an email to set up an interview or sign up on the Join Us page!
I heard you travel. What does that involve?
We usually travel in the summer, alternating larger and smaller trips. These are concert tours, meaning, we sing a lot on tour.
The repertoire we are singing for the season is related to our tour destination. For example, our 2025 Spring Concert focused on the environment. Our 2025 trip took us to Costa Rica to experience the rainforest there and learn about the ecology of the region.
We travel because we believe that we learn more about the world by singing the music of other cultures, being present in other cultures, and visiting places of historical relevance.
What kind of music do you perform?
We sing literally everything — classical composers, contemporary composers, gospel, jazz, folk, popular music, culturally based music, you name it.
We sing in many languages and strive to coach with native speakers whenever possible.
Programs are typically thematic in nature, tying many kinds of music together to create a whole.
What other opportunities come with being in Mosaic Youth Chorus?
Options to audition for American Choral Director’s Association Honors Choirs
Participation in special events such as the Bent But Not Broken Honor Choir (focusing on music by African American composers and in the African American tradition).
Exchanges with other youth choirs.
Work with guest clinicians.
What else can you tell me about Mosaic Youth Chorus?
We are a community based not-for-profit organization. Think of us as “sports travel team” but for choir.
We are a welcoming group of young people who want to make a difference in the world through song.
We foster a sense of community and acceptance through our singing, discussing, rehearsing, and performing together.
Our rehearsals are comprehensive — we dive deep into the music, looking at the text, historical context, composition, and vocal technique required to perform.
How much does it cost to become a member?
We are tuition based. Annual tuition is $1,000 for the year, payable in full, by semester (2 payments), or monthly (10 payments).
Tuition includes all rehearsals, our summer camp, music, and access to additional opportunities. It does not include travel or uniforms.
The cost averages out to about $25 per rehearsal session, considerably less than the cost of a private lesson!
We believe every young person should have the opportunity to participate! Scholarships are available for any singer in need!
“I continue to be so impressed by this group of teens. Not only are they incredibly talented and a joy to listen to, they are kind, welcoming, and thoughtful. I love how they continue to make space for the new students, greeting them with open arms and hearts, and I deeply appreciate how they encourage and motivate one another to grow musically. We feel really lucky to be part of this group of kids.”
